Confluence II
Shore Lines
A short film shown as part of an exhibition at Firstsite, Colchester, in which artists Simon Carter and Jevan Watkins Jones work simultaneously on a single drawing.
Exhibition text: "Imagine two drawings by two artists drifting across a five-mile stretch of salt-water, merging and morphing on the surface as they meet.
Artists Simon Carter and Jevan Watkins Jones collaborate in this collection of charcoal drawings inspired by their shared experience of the Essex and Suffolk coastline, and explore ideas of territory and individual experience.
For more than two years the drawings of the artists have conceptually crossed the coastal routes of Essex & Suffolk and now, for the first time, their hands come together in these new large-scale charcoal drawings.
The sequence begins on the shorelines of Walton-on-the-Naze, Essex ending at Landguard Point, Suffolk, where the artists respectively call home."
Point-to-Point
Simon Carter and Jevan Watkins Jones write:
“For over a year we have been ‘meeting’ to draw at set times, divided by five miles of the North Sea between the Naze on the Essex side and Landguard Point on the Suffolk side, our respective coastlines.
The project is about the possibilities and impossibilities in communication, as we seek to press through into a concurrent and growing awareness of each other's drawn landscapes.”
